Streaking Blues head to the Windy City

Hockey Betting Lines

02/25/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The St. Louis Blues will try to extend their winning streak to a season-high five games today, when they visit the struggling Chicago Blackhawks at the United Center.

St. Louis, which is 12 points out of the last postseason berth in the Western Conference, is just one victory away from its longest win streak since the club reeled off six straight triumphs from December 6-18, 2003.

The Blues last played on Tuesday evening, when they posted a close win in Columbus. Lee Stempniak notched a goal and an assist and also scored in the shootout as St. Louis edged the Blue Jackets, 5-4.

Bill Guerin, David Backes and Christian Backman each scored while Manny Legace made 27 saves and stopped both shots he faced in the shootout.

There is speculation that Guerin, who leads St. Louis in points (47) and goals (28) this year, will be dealt before Tuesday's trade deadline. Fellow veteran winger Keith Tkachuk may also be on the block.

However, the Blues made the decision to hold onto a few of their players this weekend, as they signed goaltender Manny Legace and defenseman Eric Brewer to contract extensions on Saturday. Legace agreed to a two-year deal, while Brewer came to terms on a four-year extension.

St. Louis, which is 11-11-6 as the away team this year, is playing three of its next four games on the road.

While the Blues have hit their stride recently, Chicago has been mired in a five-game losing streak. The Blackhawks were dealt their latest setback Thursday night, when they dropped a 2-0 decision to visiting San Jose. Evgeni Nabokov stopped all 21 shots he faced and Joe Thornton had a goal and an assist for the Sharks. .

Patrick Lalime made 21 saves for the Blackhawks, who have dropped six of their last seven games (1-4-2).

This afternoon's test is the second portion of a four-game homestand for Chicago. The Blackhawks are 11-14-4 as the host team this year.

The Blackhawks have won four of the seven meetings with St. Louis this season.

Albert Pujols to be This Year's Home Run Champ Says Online Sportsbook

Barry Bonds is a 50-1 long shot to be this year's home run champ odds.  The favorite to be this year's home run champ is none other than Albert Pujols, however.

Now that Barry Bonds is signed and in Giants camp, it is on to his pursuit of all of sports most prestigious records: the all-time home run mark. Bonds sits just 21 homers shy of tying Hank Aaron for the career mark at 755. Word out of Giants’ camp is that Bonds is the healthiest he has been in a few years. Bonds is just two seasons removed from his injury riddled 2005 campaign where he played in only 14 games and hit only 5 home runs. He did come back last year and had a solid season hitting .270 with 26 bombs. All eyes will be on Bonds this spring and summer not only because of his home run chase but his highly publicized steroid abuse allegations. If and when Bonds breaks the record, he surely will not get the positive attention one should for breaking a record that was once thought of as “unbreakable”. Despite Bonds decent season last year, he is just 50-1 at MySportsbook.com to lead the MLB in long balls this season.

Not surprisingly, the favorites to go deep the most times this season are Albert Pujols 5-1, Ryan Howard 6-1, David Ortiz 8-1 and Alex Rodriguez 12-1. With 49 homers, Pujols finished second in the National League behind Howard (58). Pujols is considered the favorite due to the consistent power numbers that he has posted since breaking into the league in 2001. Also one must consider the fact that he played in 16 fewer games then Howard did due to an injury. Howard smashed 58 homers in his first complete season of big league play en route to the National League MVP odds award. He silenced his critics by successfully hitting left-handed pitching. Howard also displayed the ability to use his power to the opposite field. Two attributes which should keep Howard amongst the league leaders in long balls for years to come. From the American League representatives, David Ortiz leads the field. Ortiz was second in the majors last year with 54 home runs. Except for 1999 when he only played in 10 games, Ortiz has improved on his home run numbers each year he has been in the majors (1997).

Huskers' Lucky hospitalized for undisclosed reason

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska running back Marlon Lucky was hospitalized Monday for undisclosed reasons after Lincoln police responded to a call at his residence.

The Nebraska athletic department said in a release Monday that Lucky was admitted Sunday night.

MySportsbook.com has the Cornhuskers listed at +2500 to win the BCS National Championship odds.

A nursing supervisor at the hospital said all questions about Lucky were being referred to the athletic department. The athletic department said there would be no further comment from the department or Lucky's family.

A Lincoln Police spokesman said officers responded to a call at Lucky's residence 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The spokesman said he didn't know Lucky's condition at the time he was taken to the hospital.

Lucky, from North Hollywood, Calif., started six games last season as a sophomore and was the team's second-leading rusher, with 728 yards and six touchdowns. He also caught 32 passes for 383 yards. He averaged 19.1 yards on eight kickoff returns.
